U10's v Haverfordwest 5th Feb 2023

Today our mighty under 10’s welcomed local rivals Haverfordwest to a beautiful, sunny and fresh Pill Parks.

Your young wasps warmed up well focusing on communication and the tackle area.

The blues got the game going and immediately had the wasps on the back foot. It wasn’t long before the opening try came from the blues corner.

This didn’t come as a surprise. We know what a well oiled machine this team in blue are. They are fast and aggressive.

But Llangwm held their own. Our defence was very well organised, always fully spread across the whole width of the pitch.

Every time Haverfordwest went forward, there was a wasp in front of them, ready to take the sting out of there attack.

Captain Grace led from the front the entire game. She organised her troops extremely well, was always on point in attack and defence, and

her bravery at the ruck was phenomenal.

Griff, Carys and Charlie all putting in the big hits, and at times, driving the blue wave back where it started from.

With continual pressure from Haverfordwest and the wasps being second to the ruck, the score board kept increasing in the blues favour.

Llangwm kept there heads up, kept battling on and just before half time, they had the reward they hugely deserved.

Llangwm, defending deep in their own half, managed to turn the ball over through a big hit from Dexter. Noah came in next to secure the ball, Bobby spread the ball out wide to Kyzer who instantly lit up the burners! ? Sprinting out wide, following the touch line, Kyzer managed to fend off multiple efforts from Haverfordwest, bulldozing his way through the sea of blue.

The home support inches from him, cheering every stride he took! He then found himself in open ground, continued to charge his way up the field to cross over for superb try!

Much to the delight of the screaming fans!!!

That was a tough first half! The coaches sang the praises of these fantastic young wasps. Asking for more of the same in the second half in terms of sheer determination, but also to increase the speed of the defensive line and to hit the rucks first!

The second half saw Llangwm lift the intensity. Oliver, Finn and Harley all coming on off the bench and immediately making their mark. Great tackles from them stopped Haverfordwest from scoring on numerous occasions.

The attacking wave from Haverfordwest continued to batter down on Llangwm’s defence, but Llangwm’s wall stood strong and solid.

Griff, Isla and Joey kept producing massive try saving tackles all while driving the attackers out into touch.

Some great turnovers were won from captain Grace, which led to Isla having some running opportunities, but just couldn’t quite puncture a hole in the blues defence.

It’s safe to say that the mighty wasps pretty much defended for the whole game. But massive credit to these young rugby players… not once did they drop their heads, they stayed in control of their defensive structure and continued to hit tackle after tackle.

Never ever did one of them look like giving up!

A solid performance against a solid team.

Congratulations to Haverfordwest.

They are a very good side, which we thoroughly enjoy playing against because we gain so much out of it.

Final score

Llangwm 5 Haverfordwest 35

In mid-week, the coaches said, if we could half the amount of points Haverfordwest scored against us in our last meeting, we would be over the moon. Anything else would be a bonus.

And that is exactly what happened today.

The score last time was 70-5.

Today 5-35.

We are absolutely thrilled with that!

Might sound crazy to some, but we think it shows just how well these guys are coming on.

We have good numbers in our squad… but not 39 like Haverfordwest!

I had the privilege of being at a kids party this afternoon… with all four Haverfordwest coaches present!! ?¬タヘ♂️?¬タヘ♂️

They all sang your praises and were very very impressed with how you all played and with how well you’ve all improved! ???

You young wasps have shone again this morning. Everyone is hugely proud of ALL of you.

Yet again, each and every one of you played and battled your little hearts out.. for the badge, for your families and for yourselves!

Hope you’ve had a relaxing afternoon… you deserved it!
