U11's v Haverfordwest 5th Feb 2023

The magical wasps u11’s welcomed Haverfordwest this morning to a sunny and dry Pill Parks that was ideal for fast attacking rugby. Using the changing rooms for the first time was a great experience for the players and to use it for our team talk gave them an indication of what is to come in their rugby lives! The talk was to come at the blues with everything we had and to keep our width.

The wasps made the perfect start unlike the last time we played Haverfordwest with some good work from Ollie and George saw our pacy winger Rowan getting his first of the day after some neat footwork. The blues then responded with one of there own after a few mistakes from the wasps but again we can always get ourselves out of trouble when you have the pace of Rowan, and despite staring on the left wing he gathered the ball and went coast to coast all on his own for an incredible solo try! The mighty wasps kept the blues back with some good tackles and George now winning turnovers at the scrum and Ollie winning plenty at the break down it fell it our new scrum half Mason who put the blues under immense pressure on there own try line to force the mistake that result in his first of the day. The mighty wasps were now purring and Ollie grabbed his well deserved try after another trademark mark run that had the blues defence scattered. Captain Harry who made meters every time he got on the ball used his quick feet to out manoeuvre the blues to get his name on the board. Haverfordwest who in all fairness competed really well at the breakdown got the ball back and split the wasps defence to go from there own try line over ours, but that didn’t deter Llangwm from finishing the half in style with Ollie running at the blues defence which literally had players stepping out of his way as they wanted no part of such a strong aggressive runner. Half time it was 42-10 to Llangwm, and at the break the players got in some much needed water and told to start supporting our runners and not leave anyone isolated. Well that clearly didn’t work as the wasps shipped 3 tries in 5 minutes ?¬タヘ♂️ from several knock ons from the re-start and harry getting himself in a right muddle on his own try line to let Haverfordwest right back in it. After having a dressing down from the coaches and told to get going again and cut out the mistakes the wasps came roaring back at them and Ollie got his third of the day after some good work from Isaac. We then lost Oscar after a smack on the nose that saw plenty of claret coming from him , he received a great round of applause from both teams as he went off as he carried and tackled like a hero today. Llangwm were now putting so much pressure on Haverfordwest that they were struggling to cope with our speed and Seth found acres of space out wide to show a good bit of power as well as pace to go over in the corner. The blues were starting to struggle against the yellow wall that continued to push forward and wish Issac and Morgan making a nuisance of themselves at the breakdown and Ashton now making up for his missed tackle earlier with some good hits and our hooker George who had a cracking game today got his well deserved try after another classic George ”show and go”. With 6 minutes to go the mighty wasps really put there foot down and started showing the supporters what they are all about with unbelievable fast hands and good skills and Seth got his second with power and footwork. But one of the best sights today was seeing Jac James get over the whitewash, he ran all day and really deserved his try today as he was throwing himself in the rucks and tackled like a hero! The blues were now out on there feet with no substitutions and after some tidy work from Jac LLewellyn and Rowan it fell to the wrecking ball that is ollie and crossed for his fourth of the day. With a minute left the Haverfordwest coaches asked for full time and the final score was a brilliant 91-27 win for the mighty wasps!

It’s hard to say but after scoring 91 points that we probably weren’t at our best today, we let the blues in the beginning second half but as is accustomed with this great team they went through the gears after that early set back and scored some wonderful tries, some of the defensive work again was good today and a special shout to Morgan who carried well and got stuck in at the ruck. Some players didn’t have there best individual game today but as team they worked really well together and we could have scored more if we were a little more clinical. But all in all another good win for the mighty wasps who continue to punch above their weight again the likes of Haverfordwest and find a way to come out on top with there amazing work rate and great skills!

Now…. rest up, and be ready as next week it is a big game away to Aberaeron in the quarter finals of the cup, I’m sure if we can bring our A game will give them plenty to think about and show them exact how far this brilliant team has come.

See you all Wednesday for a tough training session ????
