U12's v Tenby 24th Mar 2024.

The awesome Llangwm u12’s took to the field this morning for there highly anticipated semifinal against Tenby, the weather was glorious and the crowd was in good voice as the wasps embarked on this very tough mission to overcome a team that is now the best in our age group who boasted big and quick players. After losing to Tenby in the bowl final last year the wasps were out for revenge and they came out the changing rooms with fire in there belly and their hearts and there sleeves.
The wasps started well with some good possession but found themselves in there 22 and under pressure but a great steal from Ollie H relived the pressure and the wasps then found themselves in the Tenby 22 with Spencer making holes but the ball was unfortunately spilled forward in the tackle, but it was a great start from the boys. They kept the pressure up and forced Tenby into mistakes and some real good penalties from Harry gave the wasps great field position from which to attack and they did so with both Rowan and Jac making brilliant meters with jinking runs and ably backed up by the powerhouse trio of Louie, Carwyn and Spencer who threw themselves forward at every opportunity. Tenby then got there first on the board after some gaps in the midfield allowed them to scoot through. The boys weren’t deterred and kept the pace up, the ball moving well but the defence was second to none with both ollie E and Nico making crucial tackles. And another good attack saw Mason having another stormer today pick and go and the ball moved well across the back line but this was snuffed out by a brilliant ankle tap from a Tenby player to stop Rowan who was in full flight 😫
Tenby again scored but it wasn’t really deserved as the wasps were throwing everything at them and it was working with Tenby players now picking themselves up off the floor at lot more slowly! Half time….. 14-0 to Tenby.
Back in the changing rooms the boys were told that was literally the best 25 minutes of rugby they had played all season and to give a team that hasn’t lost all season a real go was a testament to there character and efforts.
Unfortunately the second half the wasps could not sustain our first half efforts and the boys switched off and allowed Tenby to run away with game. But still there were outstanding efforts from Albert who tackled like a machine and played brilliantly, Noah D and Ashton were still giving there all with both boys getting to the breakdown first at every occasion. Spencer ran himself into the ground, Morgan made another good steal at the breakdown, Rowan spent a lot of time defending today and made a brilliant try saving tackle that the ref deemed high so gave a penalty try……. But we still applauded his efforts in doing anything to stop them. George took several knocks but never stopped and marshalled a brilliant scrum to push back a much heavier pack as times. Nico filled in brilliantly at full back and ran hard when the opposition kicked. Jac had his best game in a long time and never missed a beat, Ollie E filled in on the wing today and made a brilliant tackle and carried hard using his deceptive pace. And Issac carried like a man possessed today, for such a tall player he moves like a winger at times! Louie never gave up and covered every inch of grass. Carwyn came off with 5 minutes left after giving everything to the cause, he never stopped!!
Tommie came on as a sub and showed again that he’s now getting the game and never backed away from the challenge in front of him πŸ’ͺ
Harry led the team with distinction today, he even made a brilliant tackle towards the end that gave the wasps another pick me up!
The final score was Tenby 54 Llangwm 0. That score line doesn’t reflect the game in the slightest as these proud warriors gave Tenby a real headache for 25 minutes and we were very much in the game at halftime with all of us thinking we could be onto something here!!
But it wasn’t to be, we have absolutely nothing but admiration and pride for these boys, missing so much didn’t help but they gave absolutely everything to try and get to that final. The parents, coaches and supporters were all delighted with how well you played today and it will give us an insight on how we can improve, having the cup tied boys available for next season’s cup will strengthen us even further and having Ryan D, Stan and Ryan L there to support the boys gives us more hope that next season we will be even betterπŸ’ͺ
Many thanks to Rhianne, Jason, mollie, Sophie and Craig ( who was called into work at 2.30am but still came out to run the bar!!) you are genuinely legends and it’s thanks to your efforts that we can open the clubhouse for the kids after the game, it shows what a great spirit that we have in this fantastic team from the top to the bottom 🐝
Thanks everyone, we’ve enjoyed this cup journey….. next year we will go one better πŸπŸ‰πŸ–€πŸ’›
