Youth v Crymych 22nd Jan 2023

Llangwm Youth 14 - Crymych Youth 27

A large crowd turned out at Pill Parks to watch Llangwm Youth take on their counterparts from Crymych and were rewarded with a cracking game of rugby which showed high skill levels, pace aplenty and total commitment to the cause.

Llangwm are renowned for their battling qualities, as evidenced by their epic one-point victory over league leaders Narberth in their recent encounter and this game was no different as they pushed the championship contenders all the way but were unable to contain the way Crymych played as the visitors showed no signs of ring-rustiness in what was their first league fixture of 2023.

The Young Wasps’ pack was prominent in parts of the first half but they still trailed 9-17, with full back Iwan Davies notching three penalties as scrum half Ioan Hawkridge-Jones and centre Ieuan Gray caught the eye alongside open-side flanker Dom Asson, who had perhaps his best game in a Llangwm jersey.

Powerful No 8 Joe Phillips claimed Llangwm’s only try in the second half from a quickly-taken penalty 12 metres out from which Davies supplied Owen Phelps with the pass from which he dummied and provided a well-timed pass for Phillips to take the ball at a perfect angle and plough over the line.

But Crymych always had the edge up front and hooker Rhys Jones was adjudged their man of the match for his ball carrying, tackling and accurate throwing isn at lineouts to help them set up quality possession.

Deian Davies certainly led the team by example and the try scorers were Aneurin Vaughan, Gruff Edwards, Richard Phillips, Dan page and Owain Davies, who also landed one conversion.
