U 11's v St Davids 6th Oct 2019

Llangwm - 50 St David’s - 12

A fantastic effort from the combined under 10/11s side this morning in some very difficult circumstances. This display was a big step in the right direction in the way we want to play and despite the result everyone can be very proud of their effort and attitude to the game and how they represented themselves and the club.
We started slowly today and were soon a couple of tries down before we found our feet and met a physical St David's side head on. Jack sparked us into action with a powerful and aggressive cary beating several players and punching a massive whole in the opposition defence. This galvanised everyone around him who started to follow suit and carry the ball strongly and hit rucks hard. Harry soon got himself on the score sheet with a trademark surge into around and over the top of anyone who dared cross his path and then followed this up with his 7th successful conversion of the season in a row before landing another one later in the game to maintain his 100% kicking record this season so far. Poppy came of age today and has absolutely nailed down the hooker position. Poppy carried the ball more today them ever before and really got herself involved in the tough stuff mixing it with the St David's players at every opportunity. Poppy mentioned having some problems striking the ball in the first couple of scrums and once she followed through on the advice we gave her she had no issues after that. Gethin played his second game for us today and was superb. Gethin's tackling was precise, well timed and cut attacking players down time and again. Gethin also carried the ball well and is quickly developing into a fantastic player with tonnes of promise. Mari was excellent today. Mari's pace and determination was apparent when chasing down attacking players and attacking with the ball in hand. Mari also had a 100% success rate in the line outs catching everything that Poppy threw to her which enabled is to launch attacks from the ball she won. Mari has developed into a key cog in our game plan and executed all parts of her game to a high level today. Luffy was a dynamic and dangerous attacker today and really thrived on loose ball when counter attacking giving St David's big problems when running the ball back at them causing panic in their defensive line. He also defended resouloutley and bravely and gave everything to his team. A fine game from Luffy today. Manny played in the centre today and him Iestyn and Harry worked brilliantly together in a cohesive and aggressive attacking effort that made meters every time they attacked. Manny scored a try and also put in the biggest shot of the day in defence. Tristan G had a blinder of a game today particularly in attack making countless metres with his powerful ball carrying. Tristan also defended well and will be a very exciting player to watch develop over the course of the season. Trystan O gave his now usual 100% commitment and effort with aggressive defence, powerful attack and selflessness in hitting rucks and competing for the ball. Trystan is an inspirational character in this team and does the things that enable us to play an expansive game from turnover ball and slowing down opposition ball when we are under pressure. A real menace at the breakdown and the kind of player you'd really rather avoid in any physical exchanges.
Austin played his first game at scrum half this year and was brilliant. His crisp neat passing and the pressure he put on the opposition backline caused them to drop the ball a few times, he was a real catalyst in our play today. Austin defended brilliantly and reads situations quickly making a quick decisions which either puts pressure on the opposition or sees him intercept a pass. Austin was all over the field today and ran himself to a standstill in a heroic performance. Iestyn put in a proper captains performance today. The team followed wherever he led showing their respect for his quality as a player and skipper. Iestyn carried well in attack and managed the team around the pitch dominating the opposition whenever he had the ball or in defence when he put in some unbelievable tackles, at one time three in a row which killed St David's momentum. Iestyn was Mr Llangwm today and was my player of the match.
Although the result didn't go our way today the team can be very proud of their efforts and the skills they showed in what was a very encouraging display. We have the looks of a team that is beginning to understand what they can achieve when they believe in themselves. Well done all. Marc Davies. The U9s Wasps travelled to the city this morning at a sunny but blustery St David’s!
A very close, entertaining game with the home team nudging us out 9 tries to 6.
A warm welcome to William and Aaron who made their debuts this morning. Both players making contributions in attack and defence. William made some good yards and was always on hand for the pass. Aaron covered a lot of ground, making tackle after tackle. They can be proud of themselves for their efforts in their first match.
George tackled like a machine today and didn’t take a backwards step, his offloading was superb. Dan carried the ball with intent and broke through a few tacklers, making good ground going forward. Olly ran around the pitch like a man on a mission, tackling anything that moved and being rewarded for his efforts with 2 tries in attack. Aneurin covered a lot of metres in attack, dazzling the defenders with some quick feet resulting in a hat-trick of tries. Seb, our captain for the day lead the team superbly, organising the defensive line with good communication and made some snipping runs from the tackle area, resulting in a 30 yard solo effort right at the end, scoring the try but unfortunately we ran out of time to even the scores.
All in all, very pleased with the teams effort today, their offloading was excellent.
A little bit of work to do in defence, but they will improve week on week.
Well done ?

Training as usual Wednesday night at 6pm.
