U 11's v Quins 22nd Sept 2019

Quins - 38 Llangwm - 35

A game we should have won with the determination we showed in defence and the power we showed in attack. Unfortunately we switched off with a few minutes remaining and conceded 2 soft tries to lose a game we never looked like losing. Hopefully the players will remember what it felt like at the final whistle today and use that as a catalyst to perform well in next weeks tournament and get a win against the same team.
There were lots of positives to take from today. The hard work in training is beginning to pay off and with a few more sessions and a few more games together this team will improve again. We have a very young side compared to most but those younger players are fantastically talented and brave and are proving to be a match for anyone. Gethin played his first game for us today and his performance levels were brilliant. His defence was aggressive and accurate and he carried the ball well and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet when he was on the end of an overlap but unfortunately the last pass didn't go his way. He's one to watch for the rest of the season and a great addition to the team. Mylo was combative and aggressive and didn't miss a tackle and looked threatening when running with the ball. Another new player who was involved in everything who was playing his second game for the under 11s. Look out for this guy on the score sheets next week. Austin was perpetual motion today, excellent in defence, confident in attack and put in a huge shift tackling everything that moved when the Quins were camped on our line. A fine performance from Austin this morning who did himself and the team proud. Alex playing only his second game at centre looked like he was born to play there. Alex tackled himself to a standstill and ran elusively and powerfully. Alex was a real leader in the defensive effort and inspired those around him with his defensive excellence.
George Luff opened his try account today and was a constant thorn in the Quins side when running at them from everywhere. George put in a massive defensive effort particularly in the first half and hit a large number of rucks. The first half in particular was George's best defensive display which was very encouraging. Trystan O was at his powerful aggressive best today. He was involved in the majority of rucks, tackled physically and dominated any physical exchange he was involved in. Trystan is a real team man and sacrificed himself over and over again for the good of the team. Tristan G played his first game for us today and was great. He really threw himself into action and tackled hard, accurately and hit ruck after ruck to keep the team moving forward and was a very welcome addition to the team. Mari had a brilliant game today. Her confidence has really grown and the result was there for everyone to see today. Mari carried the ball several times making lots of metres and won every line out ball. Mari also tackled well and showed exceptional fitness levels to still be running hard and chasing players down in the final moments of the game. Poppy had her best game to date today. Poppy was the ultimate competitor. Poppy won every scrum, threw accurately in the line out and covered every blade of grass in an all action display. She threw herself into into opposition players to snuff out attacks and was devastated to have lost at the end such was the enormous effort she put in today. Poppy can be very proud of her efforts today. Skipper Iestyn was a real leader today and at was his dynamic best all game. Nobody was more effective than Iestyn in defence and at ruck time where he won a stream of possession. Iestyn scored a cracking try and constantly cut down defenders to halt the Quins attack. He picked up another smashed nose for his troubles and was exhausted at the final whistle from the effort he put in. Manny had another strong game today and put a real shift in in defence and attack scoring 2 tries and tackling like a man possessed. He is in a rich vein of form at the moment. Morgan played really well today and looked unstoppable carrying the ball particularly in one charge up the touch line beating several players with his power and pace. Morgan also tackled brilliantly and constantly drove players back. This guy has massive potential and will only go from strength to strength as the season goes on. Harry was a destructive runner in attack and and a colossus in defence. Harry scored a try and continued his 100% kicking record with another nerveless 5 out of 5 conversions which very nearly won the game for us showing how important his role in the team is. Harry was my player of the match today for his all round contribution and excellent place kicking.
We have a tournament next week in the Quins and have a very quick opportunity to avenge this defeat and show how good we can be. Well done all. Great effort today.

Marc Davies.
