U9's v St. Davids 15th Jan. 2023

With great excitement and much anticipation Llangwm U9’s kicked of the second half of the season with a trip to the city of St David’s.

After a successful first half of the season all travelling supporters coaches and players were looking forward to a spectacle of attacking rugby.

From the off it was clear that our young warriors had lost a little of their sharpness in defence after their Christmas break. But still they sparkled in attack as they deployed the abundance of riches that they have at their disposal.

From the off it was clear that all present where going to witness a titanic struggle. With both teams intent on playing a free flowing style of rugby utilising their strength to achieve this.

St David’s blessed with some big strong runners deployed them with great effectiveness running into the heart of a disorganised Llangwm defence. This opened up space on the wings as Llangwm were sucked in.

One bright note in the Llangwm defence was Iolo who put in a Herculean effort a real captains game scything down and blunting the St David’s attacks time and again.

St David’s were effective in their game plan and scored a credible 14 tries.

However there is a real belief in this team that if you score 14 tries that’s fine. But we will score more. With ball in hand and attacking Llangwm U9’s have dangerous attacking options across the pitch. Each boy is confident with ball in hand and has a turn of pace to outpace any defence.

And so it came to pass that Llangwm scored 17 wonderful trues. Each one a blend of team work sprinkled with individual brilliance.

Special mention to Stefan who stepped up from the U8’s to play for us today whilst he was waiting for his fame to start.

Without doubt the try of the day was scored by him. Scooping up a spilt St David’s ball on the Llangwm try line Stefan set off. Bursting through the At David’s defence ducking and weaving out of the clutches of the pursuing St David’s players he scampered the full length of the pitch to score a wonderful individual try.

A great win for the boys today. Clearly the break has dulled some of the razor sharp attack and defence that we were witnessing before Christmas. However the boys played well today and came away with a deserved victory.

Thank you to the St David’s club who welcomed Llangwm teams today. It is always a pleasure to play at such a family friendly club.
