U11's v Whitland 7th Apr 2024.

Today your mighty U11’s welcomed Whitland to play at Pembroke’s 4G pitch.
Big thanks to Rhiannon James and Nick Hughes for pre booking this facility, which meant that our games would go ahead what ever the weather. 👍
After our triumphant display at the North Wales festival, it was important that we continued to build on our success.
Llangwm started the stronger with quick concessive tries and were soon up to a 25-5 lead.
Unfortunately this dominance did not continue. Llangwm became far too complacent, lost their structure and simply forgot how to play rugby.
It was now Whitland’s turn to start running in the tries, and the score board very quickly read 25-30 in the visitors favour.
The half time whistle couldn’t come soon enough.
These young wasps were asked to focus, start playing as a team again and remember what we’ve been working on at training.
Whitland now had their tails up and were playing lovely confident rugby.
For the next quarter of the match it was nip and tuck all the way.
Plenty more tries being scored by both sides, but there was only ever 5 points the difference.
Llangwm showed some phases of text book rugby… their running and off load skills were a pleasure to watch, but their tackling was abysmal and at times embarrassing.
You simply can’t afford to miss three tackles in a row and allow the opposition easy points.
Far too many high tackles followed, along with a lack of concentration resulted in easy tries for Whitland.
Llangwm started to switch on during the final quarter. Finally using the space out wide, and I have to say our rucking and number of turnovers were fantastic.
The Llangwm wasps going out eventual winners by 65-50.
A massive thanks to Whitland for giving us such a big challenge this morning. You didn’t stop once, and you all played with intent and skill.
To say I’m disappointed in our performance today is an understatement… but on the flip side… to win and be unhappy is a testament to this team and shows how far we have actually come this season.
Llangwm U11’s have had multiple wins this year (loosing just 2) winners of all 6 matches in North Wales and are this year’s Pembrokeshire cup finalists. All this comes with added pressure and high expectations which we thrive to deliver for the mighty club of Llangwm RFC.
I must give a mention to Isla, Griff and Grace who I thought were our standout performers today.
They never stopped grafting, always in the right place at the right time and they all scored many fantastic tries.
Massive well done guys! 👏👏
