u12's v Neyland - 7th Jan 2024

The awesome Llangwm u12’s travelled to Neyland this morning for a local derby to kick off 2024, Neyland are the current champions so the wasps knew this would be a tough start to the year but they were up for the challenge. Before kick off the call was to keep the ball moving but keep our shape.
Straight from our kick off Neyland attacked the wing and made good meters and several phases later they were over the line….. not the start the wasps needed! It was to get worse as 4 minutes later Neyland were over again after some really poor tackling in the middle of the pitch, to say the coaches were fuming is an understatement and to break out the riot act after 5 minutes of play was not what we thought would happen but it was given and it woke the wasps from there slumber. The tackles were now flying in and with Spencer making some great holes with his pace and power the wasps were getting further and further up the field, ollie H was at his dynamic best looking for the ball and crashing into defenders, we then lost Bailey to back injury, nothing to serious and he will be back next week but Ryan came on and did a great job in the front row. The wasps were probing the Neyland defence and after a great break by Spencer he was stopped short of the line and from the resulting break down we lost the ball, but it was a big effort from the boys to get there. Towards the end of the half Noah E was at his creative best and after a beautiful chip and chase he nearly made the Neyland defender fumble it into his hands for what would have been a certain try. With last play called Neyland were on our try line and from a scrum there number 8 made a mighty dash for the line but he was met by our tacking machine in Harry who did a brilliant job of stoppping him. Half time…… the talk was to keep working hard and keep probing that defence and support the runners.
The second half started and once again the wasps went to sleep, Neyland again used there really good 13 to great effect and he danced through the wasps defence to score a great solo try and he then followed up by crashing over from the breakdown. But heads didn’t drop, the wasps galvanised themselves back again, Stan was making meters for fun and he was helped by Alex out on the wing who made a great run to get the wasps out of trouble at one point, Seth gathered several kicks and drove at Neyland and you could guarantee that Noah D wouldn’t be far behind at the breakdown to secure the ball, and after a good passage of play for Llangwm and some good passing from Harry and Noah E it fell into the arms of Rowan who did what he does best and out pace the Neyland defenders to score under the posts! Rowan had is quietest game today for a long while but when that opportunity finally came he was there at his deadliest! Harry duly converted! With the last play called there was no more time for the wasps to really go again. Final whistle…..
Neyland 24- Llangwm 7
That’s was the toughest start to the year you could ask for! But the wasps put in a sterling effort against the best and deserved to get there points in the board, they worked tirelessly today and they were faced with a tough opponent but after conceding two early tries the dug in and got going and showed they are no push overs. Everyone did a brilliant job and to give them a game like that is a testament to there toughness, but my god we need to cut out these cold starts!!! Rest up boys as it’s another tough test next week against Pembroke but if we go another gear we will give them a hell of a test πŸ’ͺ
Thanks everyone, see you Friday for training 🐝
