U 10's v Milford Haven 18th Nov 2018

The under 10s played an entertaining match against a very physical Milford team who we unfortunately finished 2nd best to. We were a bit rusty after not playing for a while and missing a session due to the rain and a bit short on numbers but the lads performed admirably in the face of a massive physical onslaught from the beginning. I’m biased but for my money we were the most skilful side with some of the ball handling exemplary, particularly one move on our own line involving 2 long but perfectly weighted passes from Edward and Harry releasing George on a length of the field effort in which only a last ditch tackle forcing him into touch prevented him from scoring. The effort today was excellent and typifies this groups desire to try hard for each other. Skipper Iestyn was excellent today both in attack and defence. He was physically dominant in the ruck and tackle and has a real warrior attitude which led him to taking a few heavy hits but still got up and finished the game strongly and he also got himself on the scoresheet. Harry was at his aggressive best today and looked unstoppable at some points particularly when scoring a try that involved beating everyone on the right hand side of the field before turning his attention to the players on the left that he hadn’t yet run over the top of and beating them as well before touching down. George was excellent today both in attack and defence and made several typically George lung busting efforts whilst also competing well at the ruck and tackling well. George must have been half the size of some players and is the very embodiment of rugby being a game for all sizes proving that good technique and confidence to back your skills beats sheer brawn finishing the game strongly despite being hit with a massive tackle. Edward was good again today and made several good meter eating runs and tackles that halted players in their steps. Edward’s passing is top drawer and again his commitment saw him take a heavy knock whilst throwing himself at the opposition. Manny played well today particularly in the second half. He was good going forward and aggressive and accurate in defence apart from the high hit that almost decapitated someone. He linked play well with Iestyn in the centre of the park, both possessing the ability to think a phase ahead and predict where the ball will appear next.
My man of the match today was Trystan. Trystan makes improvement in his game every week in training and in game situations. The physical nature of today’s game lent itself to Trystan’s strengths. His tackling was effective and aggressive and he carried the ball today more than I’ve ever seen him before, always making headway and always presenting the ball well once tackled. The harder the game the more Trystan fronts up relishing the contest and really getting stuck in. We’ll take a lot from this game. It gives us some specific things we can work on and correct in training that will help us going forward. Well played all and thanks to all the Mums, Dads, sisters, brothers, grandparents and friends who came to watch a good game refereed the best lawman in the west Simon Preddy
