U12's v Cardigan 17th March 2024.

U12's 17th Mar
The wasps u12’s made the long trip to play cardigan this morning to play a team we hadn’t come across for a few years and it’s a credit to them for organising the use of the 4G pitch up there, the only ones who were disappointed were the parents and supporters who had to stand out side the fence in the mud 🤣
With the weather playing havoc with both games and training the boys hadn’t played together since there great quarter final cup win 5 weeks ago against Fishguard and not playing a team that we are familiar with gave the coaches plenty to think about.
Unfortunately right from kick off it was apparent there was a level of rustiness in our game and Cardigan scored almost right from kick off, it didn’t get much better when the wasps were falling off tackles and allowing pressure on themselves with a lack of aggression at the breakdown and cardigan scored again. The boys just didn’t seem to click together and we’re finding things difficult but Rowan used his pace and power to crash over and get the wasps on the board.
We started seeing more possession for the wasps but it was all hard work in the midfield but Mason who has developed into a cracking number 8 used his quick feet and strong fend to get on the score sheet. With the half drawing to a close cardigan again scored thanks to a good player that was a thorn in our side the entire game and the lack of game time for the wasps was obvious when we blew a good chance right the very end of the half.
The mighty wasps were struggling but after identifying a few things to tweak they came out with renewed vigor  to take the battle to cardigan……… and then conceded straight away 😩 with more missed tackles, cardigan again scored another 2 despite plenty of possession for the wasps but they just couldn’t find that breakthrough. With 10 minutes left you could finally see some drive in the wasps eyes and that determination not to go out on a whimper and they hammered at Cardigan with every thing, Ollie H making tackle after tackle, Louie winning the breakdown battle and Stan who was an absolute stand out today never missed a single tackle and made several good runs to show us how good he can be! And after all that pressure it came to Mason who again used his brilliant fend to beat 3 cardigan players to score his much deserved second!
The wasps were in full control and going after everyone, a different bounce of the ball would have seen Nico go over and a brilliant 5 meter carry from Ryan L saw him go over the line but unfortunately he was held up but that was outstanding from Ryan. And unfortunately despite the pressure the ref blew for full time. Llangwm 15 - Cardigan 34
The last 10 minutes of the game really did show the boys in there best light as they were the much better team but we can be notorious slow starters and after doing little rugby for 5 weeks it really did show and we are all hoping that this is something that can be addressed for next season as missing so much unfortunately hurt us today. But we are all proud of the boys efforts and the fight they put up at the end of the game was really pleasing to see and fingers crossed we have now got it out of our system and we can look forward to a massive semifinal against Tenby next week where the wasps will no doubt give everything to get to that final 🐝🖤💛
Massive thanks to the parents for making the long early journey up there, your support for the club is nothing short of amazing and we are all so greatful for your continued support to allow these great boys to play rugby ❤️
See you next week for a big training session 💪
