U12's v Pontardulais 7th Apr 2024.

The mighty  Llangwm u12’s welcomed a touring team in Pontarddulais this morning to wet and windy Pill Parks to show a big crowd how good junior rugby is in Pembrokeshire. Pont have a cup final next week so the wasps knew how tough this would be against a strong Swansea side. Llangwm never look over awed against this aggressive side and took the fight ( more of that later) to them. We enjoyed some early success at the breakdown and kept Pont at bay with massive tackles, the ball then found its way to Rowan who beat 4 players and dotted down under the posts. The wasps kept there discipline and used our forwards to give us a great platform from which to attack and once again it fell to Rowan who is now using his strength as a well as speed to fend off several defenders to score. Pont were stunned and struggled against the incessant Llangwm pressure, Louie and Stan were stopping everything and along with Mason and Ollie H there was nothing for Pont to do except run into brick walls, with both Carwyn ( who had his best game in a Llangwm shirt) and Isaac carrying hard and making meters it have a great starting point to attack a fragile Pont defence, this resulted in a lovely opportunistic try for Ollie H who read the game all day and scored brilliantly. Pont were struggling but the wasps kept pilling on and gave them no space, Jac L tackled like a Demon and how Ryan D kept hold of two poor passes il never know but he handled them brilliantly and still presented the ball back like a pro!  At the end of the half Rowan grabbed another to put the mighty wasps up 26-0 at half time.
Literally the best 25 minutes the kids had played all season and we were ahead, in the changing rooms the call was to keep the levels up and not allow the opposition anything.
The second half started like the first, the forwards doing a huge amount of work with Bailey and Ashton getting amongst it backed up with Ryan L and Noah who were both hunting for the ball at the breakdown and along with forwards captain George they kept Pont back with throwing everything to the tackle and breakdown. Ollie E made a great run down the wing only to be stopped short and after a lovely kick by George we again lost the ball but that was no problem because when you have a number 9 like Albert who hunts like a wolf and tackles like a lion you knew you had a chance to win it back and Albert was outstanding today and totally outshone his opposite number with countless tackles and several to the line passes. Pont got one back through there hard work and determination but could never really break the massive yellow and black wall in front of them and with Morgan winning 2 turnovers and Harry destroying anything that came down his channel the mighty wasps kept them at bay! And with 3 minutes left Pont finally lost there cool and started a scrap but the wasps were there in huge numbers to win that little battle as well and Seth ever the peace maker got tagged but he’s made of stern stuff as we all know and rose to his feet like the warrior he is……. Full time Llangwm 26 Pontarddulais 5
And absolutely incredible result for the young wasps , they played with huge passion and commitment today and the way they fronted up to such an aggressive team was outstanding, absolutely everyone did there job to perfection and it’s always great to show a new team how good these Llangwm guys are! Pontarddulias are a great team with great coaches and it was a pleasure to have them come down to us and we have already arranged the away fixture!
Boys…….. we are so proud…… really really proud of you all….. you’ve shown what you can do…….and it’s now the level we expect 💪🐝
A massive thank you to Laura Claire Jade Davies, Rhianne Hancock Jason O'callaghan and Rhiannon James for running the clubhouse for us, without there brilliant work we would have nothing to go back to, it’s because of them we can go back and enjoy a pint and some food just the way rugby should be and we are eternally grateful ❤️
