U 10's v Fishguard 23rd Sept 2018

The under 10s played a very entertaining game in Fishguard this morning providing the spectators with a feast of running rugby. At times we attacked like Fiji running the ball from everywhere including one length of the field effort from George Lightning Luff who produced his usual lung busting, heart in your mouth, try of the season effort when picking up the ball in his in goal area and launching a solo, length of the field effort to out sprint the Fishguard defence to score a try that you had to see to believe. Another piece of magic included an attack down the left flank of Fishguard’s defence by Harry who carried strongly before finding Edward supporting who switched play back inside to Manny and then Jack who found skipper Iestyn who still had 4 players to beat and twenty metres to go but with quick feet he stepped inside 1 before carrying 3 players over the line to score a brilliant try.

Everyone gave 100% today and I couldn’t have asked anymore from the guys. Edward carried well, particularly in the second half, Jack was robust and has great feet for such a powerful guy, Manny was creative as well as hitting rucks and opposition players hard, Harry was as Harry always is physically imposing whenever in possession, George as I have mentioned earlier produced his usual moments of magic. A big mention to Trystan who has really taken to the physical aspects of rugby so far this year. A team needs a healthy mix of ball handlers and man handlers and Trystan is certainly developing into a cracking man handler.
Today’s man of the match was captain marvel Iestyn who did his best impression of Justin Tipuric from beginning to end. This guy has some engine and that coupled with his strength over the ball, massive amount of tackles and constant carrying meant he put in a performance that would have exhausted the Duracell bunny.
Unfortunately we finished second today to a good Fishguard team 10-7. There are definitely some things we can improve upon in training but effort definitely isn’t one of them. Nobody could’ve tried any harder today and that was very pleasing to see. Training is Tuesday this week with the visiting Scarlet’s players from 5:30pm. Let’s make a big effort to be there. Thanks guys. Marc Davies.
